Iran midway complex competition (Winter 2006)

Client: Iran ministry of tourism

Design: Massih Nilforoushan, Mohamad hossein abbasi

The client asks designers to design a building, to service traveler.

According to the client description the complex should be built in each highway across the country. Building should be easily and built, in addition, it should be inexpensive in order to build more than 50 one in Iran.

We should take in account the requirements of each building, which are rest rooms, pray rooms and supermarket.

We design four cubes for each function for a complex, which can be sat in different positions, references by locations weather conditions.

In the hot and dry climate 4 cubes can create a central courtyard. The courtyards can decrease the temperature by creating shades; in addition water in courtyard can balance the weather condition.

In cold climate 4 cubes can attach to each other and provide better condition inside of the building.

IRTOYA Parking (Fall 2009)

Client: Central Toyota solicitor ship in Iran

Executor: Ronin Pars.co

In this project According to the client needs, I should design a quick and, easily construction, structure to provide sunshade for more than 3000 square meters. In accord with Tehran weather condition and amount of rain and snow, tensile sunshades are one of the best solutions for these kinds of parking. In addition there are good contactors to construct this kind of structure in Iran. According to the circulation of cars and entrance of building`s entrance in the parking area, I design two different opportunities for IRTOYA.

Thanks to Ronin Pars, authorizes me to publish this project.

Environment Evaluation on Children museum of Tehran

MARC 8600 - Environmental Evaluation of Building Projects

(Fall 2010

Instructor: Professor .Pairone

In this project I evaluate the energy demand of a project that already is designed, which is my final project, was designed for bachelor thesis. The goal is to study the current energy demand of complex and add approaches in the design to improve the building profile and decrease the amount of energy consumption.

According to my professor advise to avoid complexity and miscalculation and precise the analyses, I choose one zone of this building to study, analyze and design to reach the final goal.

In the process I model and calculate three approaches. In addition I change the materials section design to obtain better thermal insulated building. By considering the amount of energy conserved by each approach I conclude the project.

Renovation of an industrial building in Costigliole Saluzzo

MARC 8200 - Sustainable Design with Efficient Materials and Resources (Spring 2010

 Instructor: Professor .Pairone

In this project, I try to study about current situation of this industrial building and design new scheme for it to provide comfort and conserve the energy with efficient natural sources.

In the first step I study to analyze the natural lighting situation and electric energy consumption. I study different approaches to increase the solar gain in the building such as increasing openings, using different kinds of skylights and sky tracker. In addition, by considering the weather profile for the site the second step is to design more efficient natural materials to make the building more insulated to reduce the energy demand.

 The Gateway

MARC 6700 - Landscape Architecture (Spring 2010)

Instructor: Professor .Voltolini

The project is to design a gateway for Castello della Rover in Vinovo (Turin). This castle is located in the central and historical part of Vinovo. In addition, now this castle is renovated and is the main campus of St.John University. The court yard and gate way of the castle are not appropriate for a campus, because, in the renovation design and process, the court yard and gateway did not change.

To design a suitable gateway and courtyard for the campus, I analyze physical and visual relation between the castle and public area around it. According to the history of Vinovo and importance of this castle in this town Studying about social aspect of this castle is necessary. In the next step I study about ecological point of view especially focus on the territorial vegetation and animals.

After the first phase of project I focus on the physical elements of gateway and courtyard such as insulator wall between castle and outside, entrances, paths, student lounge. Some of these elements are designed and created during renovation but not in proper way.

According to the first phase studies and analysis and the requirement of courtyard and gateway I design.

Alborz skyscraper

MARC 6100 - Architecture Option Studio 1 (Fall 2010)

Instructor: Marco Brizio

The goal is to design a multi functional skyscraper by considering sustainable design rules.

The site I chose for this building is located in north part of Tehran, Iran. The site is located in the south hillside of Alborz Mountain, thus users can have wide panoramic view of Tehran and in addition, according to the height of this skyscraper, it can be seen from most part of Tehran. Tehran has a moderate climate condition and especially in north part of it the weather is hot and dry in summer and cold and wet in winter.

The building includes commercial and retails stores, offices and residential apartments and basic facilities for residential part such as; primary school, sport and multimedia facilities. Among 30 floors of the skyscraper, the upper 26 floors are designed for residential apartments and the other four floors are designed for other purposes.

The building has two different parts; wide and flat area in the first four floors and in the other floors area decrease to the top of the skyscraper and contain residential apartments.

To make a dynamic shape for a tall skyscraper I designed each floor of it with different curved and smooth edge slabs, which are supported by pillars, can bear the weight of residential apartments.

According to the different shape of each floor, the best shape for residential apartments hexagonal in plan in order to fit maximum numbers of apartments next to each other, exactly the same as who bees make their hives.

In order to design different types of residential buildings, I designed three types of apartments with 65, 130 and 195 m2, which are apartments with 1, 2 and 3 rooms and kitchen and 1 or 2 bathrooms.

The first apartment types (65m2) is designed in one third of a hexagonal module and the second type is two third of hexagonal module and the third type is a complete module.

To provide enough natural lights for apartments I designed voids, which are dynamic in shapes and provide natural lights to enter the buildings, thus all apartments have natural light through voids or openings on the façade of the skyscraper.

LIC Cinema Competition

 MARC 6000 - Architecture Option Studio 2 (spring 2011)

Instructor: Professor Marco.Brizio

Group work: Zahra Hassanipour, Massih Nilforoushan

During the architecture option studio 2, I design a cinema complex.

Truthfully the topic is a competition in New York. In the competition description, the main goal is to reduce the recent gap between theater and Home Theater, which now increasing quickly.

The main concept is to reduce this gap and attract people to the theaters and cinemas instead of home theater, by design of the building. I have to design a complex, which has inner divers.

The complex and competition requirements lead to a huge building with several repetitive functions. In addition I should avoid monotony of this repetitive.

Straight lines, sharp angles and folded planes like in origami art, make the complex stand out from smooth and “curved” water surroundings….
